The other day I received a new project for the local symphony; an opening night invitation. In doing some research I found an amazing couple of videos on YouTube.com. I was told to think 'Bolero'...Bowhato? Luckily my homegirl Gidget filled me in. :)
So I did some googlin' and found out that it's a one-movement orchestral piece by Maurice Ravel that was originally composed as a ballet in the 18th century. What I found most remarkable about the movies is the difference in European and American culture. The crowd roared after performance, but as soon as the conductor took his bow and turned back to his orchestra the crowd would become completely silent. There were young children sitting completely content as these beautiful sounds invaded their ears.
Sometimes I wonder why I chose to be a graphic designer, and it's because I am constently learning. Each new client proposes a new set of material that I need to learn about in order to create a successful job. When I stop and think about it, it makes for a pretty good 9-5.
