As of yet we haven't found a place to move into. This past Monday we went and checked out a duplex that is next door to a good friend of mine (for the story's sake, we'll call him number one). I called him up and said,"Do you think we'd be able to cruise by tonight and check out your pad? The one next door is coming up for rent and we're thinking about moving in!""Come on by, we'll be here all night watching football." he said.
We stopped by there and another friend (we'll call him number two) was there drinking a few beers. We checked it out and got some info regarding the utilities and other bills. I liked what I saw. That was Monday night.
Tuesday after I got home from work number two called me and asked me what I was doing, and if we had decided on where we were going to live yet. I stated that we had another place to look at and that we had already turned in an application to the property company that owns the said duplex, as well as many more throughout the city...And that we could get either one. We had looked at 2 different properties and were approved, but hadn't decided which we'd want to live in. We ended the conversation with the normal goodbye. After a page full pro/con comparison chart was built, we decided that the best place for us to live would be the duplex next to number one. I went to bed with a feeling of relief. That was Tuesday night.
Wednesday around 10:00 a.m. I get a text from Sum that reads, "I called Lori (the manager of the property company we'd applied to, and been accepted) to tell her we wanted the place on 11th. She said (number two) had picked up an application and that he had specified the location on 11th." Our application was just for general property company in general, since we were looking at two different locations. That's shitty. The same place we had just told him we were thinking we'd move into not more than 12 hours ago...This the same place that he was at on Monday night when we went to look at it to make sure it was what we wanted.
His excuse is this. He says that he knew about it weeks ago. This is hard to believe considering number one had told me that when he spoke with his neighbor last he didn't say he was moving out. He said he mentioned something about it and that was it. The manager of the property didn't know until Monday that he was definitely moving out, and that he wouldn't be out until the 1st of October. Never the less I told him that even if he had known, why didn't he turn in an application two weeks ago? What was the reason he waited until the night after I had told him I was interested? Why didn't he tell me that he knew the place was going to be available, and that they were looking at? He said that he was waiting for them to come available and he just didn't think to say anything.
First of all, I have rented for over 5 years and I know that no one waits an apartment is vacant before applying. You turn in your application ahead of time to get approved, and then they give you the day that the current tenant will be out. If the apartment is vacant, you'd turn your app. in right away regardless if you are interested. Secondly when we went to look at number one's place, number two said nothing in regards to them looking at that place, and in fact he was telling people he had already placed his deposit down on another house by south ridge. This last conversation ended with number two calling me a baby and saying that he was going to call and have his application thrown away so I'd quit crying. That was Wednesday night.
Thursday after work I talked to my better half and she said that number two took the place. Number two is exactly that, a piece of shit. So here we are, 12 days from our move out date with no where to move in. Sweetness.
