Like something you'd see in a movie...

Well if you remember my post the other day ("The doctor also noted that if she were to continue to have the contractions to head back in...Let's just hope that doesn't happen today when we are 100 miles away in Omaha for her baby shower!") you might enjoy this story.

Sunday we headed to Omaha at about 1:30 and showed up around 3. Sum's shower was at 3:30 so they dropped me off at a friends house nearby and proceeded to the shower. I ended up going completely across town to relax with a few amigos and got comfortable.

"This day couldn't be better!" I said.

-my phone rings-

"Hey babe," It was Sum, and her voice sounded nervous. "My water broke."

Immediately I asked her if she was joking, and she wasn't. It was 4:00 and she waited 30 minutes to call me because she knew I'd thought it was a bad idea to go and didn't want me to give her shit. She had called the doc and was told we'd be fine to drive back to Sioux City. So I had to get rushed over to the restaurant where the shower was being held, and off we went!

So you fully understand this situation, I must inform you that it was a full vehicle with my mother, sister, Jordan, Summer and I. Sum began to have really bad contractions, and I was timing them. They were about 4-5 minutes apart the whole way home-which means she was in active labor! So while she is fighting through the pain I am trying to calm my little man down because he didn't think that he should have to be in his car seat any more. Loud crying mixed with loud breathing equals chaos. Somehow I managed to remain somewhat calm.

We got to the hospital around 6 or so, and she was in a ton of pain until her epideral. Finally around 1:30 A.M. the doc said she was dialated to 4 and that she should expect to push around 6 or 7 A.M. I close my eyes at 1:50, and am woke up at 2:00 with the news Sum was at at 9 now, and we are ready to have the kid! At 2:48 A.M. Isabella Grace was born! It was amazing, and something I will never ever forget. Thank God...I am so blessed. I'm posting some pictures below of the whole deal, and some from when big brother came to visit his little sister yesterday!

Welcome Isabella...You holding up still Chase? Isn't it a fantastic high watching and being part of the "action"...She is pretty cute if I do say so myself (and I truly believe most babies are ugly, squirmy, filthy little creatures) JKidding!

She is BEAUTIFUL...Summer, if you don't start calling me more often, or at least e-mail me, I am taking you out of my will...

The ever changing, never ending list.

I hear a lot about bucket lists. I dunno, maybe I have one. More of my 'lists' are current lists, 5 year lists, 25 year lists...but I guess they all could be bucket lists because we don't know how much time we've got at the dance. Over the past 2 years my wants have drastically changed. I've been focusing on simpler things, true things. Not reaching so much for more, just trying to enjoy what is here more. That goes for family, friends, opportunity, relationships...not material things. (Except I really really want a canoe or kayak so I can get out on the water soon) Is it possible to make a list that won't change?  Is it possible to remain true to the values of a 34 year old father, when those very values seem to have shifted based on life experiences? Are the items on my list too specific? Maybe... Love Honesty Compassion Health Fun More to come on this one I'm pretty sure.

Take us out to the ball game.

Last night we ventured over to the Explorers baseball game after dinner, it was great. Jordan talked to the X's pitching crew out in the bull-pin for a while, and they ended up giving him a ball. He's such a sports guy! The pitcher that gave him the ball said, "Can you give it a throw?" and so he did...over his head out into left field! Of course my diva Bell had more fun doing spins and drinking a slush, but that's all good. I love my family.
